Three days out of the week, I take care of a boy who is blind from birth. Plus, he has cerebral palsy. I will call him (R). He is a twin, smart as hell, and all his other senses are highly attuned.

A couple of weeks ago when I was caring for him while Dad and Grandma when to work, he started misbehaving. Well, I always carry one Syd in my pocket the other in my car. I told (R) that if he relaxes and stops misbehaving, I will let him touch Syd since he is magical.

(R) stopped misbehaving, so I took out my blue Syd. I told (R) I will hold him while you touch him because if you drop him, he will break and all the magic will go away. (R) was so amused that he smiled from ear to ear and said, “I feel his magic! I don’t feel so much blackness anymore.”

This morning, while I was getting him ready, I put him on his wheelchair. He grabbed the pocket of my scrubs and he said, “You have Syd ?????”

I said, “Excuse me?”

He said, “You have Syd. Can I hold him?”

So I took Syd out and let (R) hold him. He said, “I feel all his magic. Today is going to be amazing. ????”

(R) likes red. I’m getting him a red one.
