Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Howard Thurman
I received flowers from my niece the other day and the card read, “The Joy In Your Heart Is So Important. Remember it’s At The Center Of Your Light.”
That message is everything I have been thinking about lately. How great are her words? And, how magical it is to receive an unexpected surprise! My young niece is a wise soul. The joy in our heart IS so important. Connecting with joy is what ignites our light.
Even during a year like 2020, I must find my joy. It nurtures me, and I like to believe that it adds joy to the world at the same time. At my core, I have a very playful side. When I am alone you might find me dressing up Syd, dancing to music, dreaming up new ways that spark that joy in me. And there doesn’t have to be logic in it. In fact the less logic the better.
The magic lies in discovering your own path to joy… in finding what uniquely makes YOU come alive.
But when logic kicks in, it can often make me believe that what is giving me great joy is actually ridiculous. I mean how ridiculous was quitting a financially secure, respectable career to make thumbs up statues? But, it wasn’t. It was probably the best decision I made in my life, other than my husband.
I wouldn’t trade my husband, kids, or the life we have, for anything. But, I also would not trade the joy I feel from creating things that make me come alive, even if they seem so silly to others.
I am in the middle of designing the first Syd keychain and charm and the thought of being able to easily take Syd with you everywhere makes me so excited!
But want to know what makes me crazy excited? Making beautiful material with colorful Syds all over it… PJ’s, meditation cushions, who knows? I can see myself draped in this material for a photoshoot and it just makes me giggle.
I hope you find ways to nurture that joy inside of you. Feel like sharing your thoughts on this with me? I read every email. Yup, another thing that gives me great joy… connecting with you!
I love you. Syd loves you. We can do today!!! #getmonked
