Leave Room For The Magic

Magic is always born from the empty spaces.

When people talk about vision boards, I always say to “leave room for the magic.”

I like to keep a BIG blank space for the things I can’t even imagine. The things that make me say, “I didn’t see THIS coming.”

The empty space is where the magic lives and where the miracles happen. The empty space is about trusting and believing that miracles are possible.

I’ve never really liked vision boards because I didn’t always have a vision. I knew how I wanted to feel, but not necessarily how it would look. For me it’s more about the feeling… an inner knowing. It’s about trusting what you can’t see with your eyes, which for me has come with time and experience.

As a CPA working in Corporate, I was always rooted in thought and logic. If I could add it up and quantify it… I was all in! But, it was Syd who taught me that 2 + 2 doesn’t always equal 4. Often the best ideas and experiences come from that “feeling” and not from our brain.

For me, it all began when I started hearing “the call”, like in Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey”. I answered it by quitting my career, even though I had no idea what came next. I didn’t have a vision or an idea, in fact I could have never envisioned the life I have now. I didn’t know what was next, but I did know I had to listen… no matter what.

And here is the thing. I am starting to hear the whispers of another call. And my human brain is like “What!!!? I like my life. I answered the call already. Come on. Not again”. But the call doesn’t care about all of that. The call just knows it is time for your soul to evolve again. And truthfully I can never say no to the call.

So I am spending as much time as possible in stillness… I got the coolest crystal box and am putting in any clues that light me up … quotes, words, pictures. I believe that this will reveal my next step, and at the same time, I’m having so much fun doing it.

I posted about this on social media the other day and people are sharing that they’re going to do it too! Want to give it a try also? If so, keep us posted. Feel free to snap a pic and share with #getmonked and tag @thesuburbanmonk.

I love you. Syd loves you. We can do today!

Do you have a vision board? What is on it?

Please share. I could discuss these things all day.
